A collegue of mine had an interesting install problem on Friday.
The scenario was that RS 2000 was to be installed on a machine that was running a Great Plains Business Portal whilst the databases are to be on a seperate machine. Now I have written about the licence requirements for this before but thats the way they wanted it. I have also ranted on the pain Business Portal caused me but this was a whole new world of pain!
For some reason the RS Setup would not or could not connect to the instance of SQL on the remote machine. The remote could be manually seen, and managed in Enterprise Manager but no amount of bashing would get setup to work!
The error was "Cannot create SSPI context" or just "Cannot connect to SQL Server" depending on which protocol was being tried.
My gut feeling is that the server was not authenticating correctly. A reboot was not viable and someone has suggested restarting the kerberos Service.
Dont know but I shall wait and see.
