On Tags and Product names

I read this post from PCPro that advocates tagging posts to get the best SEO results.

Now I don’t doubt that that is the case when blogging about a specific subject but the problem I have with it is that when blogging about technologies, especially Microsoft technologies this can quickly get out of hand.

If I post a blog about Microsoft CRM then the chances are that it will contain references to, for example, SharePoint and SQL Reporting Services. Now to be a good tagger I need to tag such a post with:

  • Microsoft  CRM
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM
  • Dynamics CRM
  • CRM
  • MSCRM
  • SharePoint
  • SharePoint 2007
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007
  • MOSS 2007
  • Reporting Services
  • SQL Reporting Services
  • SSRS

and so on. You get the idea.

So does anyone have any reference to a viable taxonomy that we can work to, is it viable to consider such an idea or what do you work to?
